Bits and pieces this week rather than one big thing - a colour change, a new page, and a proper tidy-up of the habit tracker. Here's what's different if you've been around before.
A warmer coat of paint #
The site has been forest green since I built it, and this week I swapped that out for a warmer sienna and terracotta. Feels a bit more autumnal, even though it's still technically summer. Small change, but it touches every page, so it's the one you'll notice first.
While I was in there I also fixed something that had been quietly bugging me: the footer copyright year was hardcoded. It now pulls the current year automatically - and, because I can't resist a bit of unnecessary flourish, it's rendered in Roman numerals. So it's © MMXXVI down there now, not 2026. No practical benefit whatsoever. I like it anyway.
A /friends page #
I added /friends/ this week - a grid of the people I talk to most, mostly from the On The Side Slack. It's modelled on the /friends idea going round, in the same spirit as my /now page follows the Now Page standard.
I'll say what the page itself already admits: it's a solid wall of white, middle-aged blokes in tech. Send help, or better friends.
Nice surprise while I was putting this together: Nick Gray reached out off the back of his own list and added me to his featured friends over on nickgray.net. Exactly the kind of small, human internet moment this whole idea is meant to encourage.
Habit tracker catch-up #
The habits section got proper attention this week too.
MapTap is new. It's a daily 5-round geography guessing game I play head-to-head with my mate Gary, comparing scores over WhatsApp every morning. It's now got its own page with Gary's scores plotted alongside mine so you can see who's winning at a glance, not just my side of it. Backdated the rounds so far and it's kept up to date since.
Duolingo got its regular top-up - the Greek streak keeps climbing, now logged through to yesterday.
Sudoku got the biggest piece of work. I'd been sitting on a folder of Yudoku screenshots and finally fed the whole lot through this week - every session for the month, not just the ones I'd already logged. Turned out a few of those screenshots were duplicates I'd saved twice without realising, and sorting that out surfaced something more useful: the actual days I'd missed. Six of them this month, as it happens. The tracker's only honest if it shows the gaps as well as the streaks.
Nothing earth-shattering, just the usual maintenance that makes the place feel a bit more like mine. More soon.
